The Watcher in the Woods (1980): A Disney Horror Film?

We close out October with an oxymoron: a legitimate Disney horror film – 1980’s The Watcher in the Woods. He may be the king of Fantasyland but can the Mouse produce an effective horror film?

When two young sisters move into an isolated mansion with their family, they quickly discover a dark secret involving a blindfolded apparition and an otherworldly presence in the nearby woods.

Released during an experimental decade for the Mouse House (a period that also spun out films such as Tron and Return to Oz), Watcher is directed by John Hough (The Legend of Hell House; Escape to Witch Mountain) and stars Bette Davis (All About Eve; Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?) and Lynn-Holly Johnson (Ice Castles; For Your Eyes Only).
