The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the most contentious animated features from the Disney Renaissance. From its dark themes (“Hellfire,” anyone?) to spectacular visuals, it is easily one of the boldest, most atypical films ever produced by the Mouse House.
Overshadowed by more accessible successes such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King, Notre Dame remains one of the most neglected entries from the Disney animated canon – but does it deserve a reevaluation?
